Effervescent Freshness

Luna Rossa Ocean starts off bright and fresh, with a burst of bergamot citrus mixed with a pop of spicy pink pepper.

The pink pepper helps liven it up by giving it an invigorating effervescent effect. I also pick up on a faint cooling minty undertone (though, it’s not listed as an official note).

And when the citrus burns off, lavender and iris come into play and they work in tandem to create, what I would describe as:

A nice light-powdery sweetness… sitting on top of a layer of luxurious-smelling smooth, clean soapiness. And then…

Clean & Confident

Finally, some dry woodiness pokes through the soapy sweetness — with a dose of clean musk. The result:

A pleasing, inoffensive clean and fresh scent that attracts a LOT of nice compliments.

Oh, and it’s worth mentioning, despite its name, I don’t get ANY “oceanic” type vibe — whatsoever! 🤷‍♂️ And also, to be crystal clear:

Safe & Inoffensive

LR Ocean is a safe, subtle scent that doesn’t scream out for attention. So if you’re after something loud, you’re going to be disappointed, my friend. So…

This scent is definitely not the best pick on this list if you’re looking for a strong going-out or club type scent.

Because we found that for up to the first 2 hours, it projects politely off your skin (within an arm’s reach).

It then hovers, unobtrusively, just above your skin, giving off inviting, gentle wafts, before eventually fading into a pleasing skin scent. The good news…

Office Friendly

This makes LR Ocean a PERFECT office/work scent for when you want to “play it safe” and not have to worry about offending your coworkers with your scent.

In fact, its pleasant aroma makes it a pleasure to wear for all ages, anytime, for just about any occasion — all year (just adjust your sprays accordingly).

Because, after all, it’s never a bad time, or age, to smell super clean, right? 😎

And I’ll be straight with you, my friend…

All-Year Versatility

In our tests, lasting power was a bit spotty as results were all over the place. What do I mean?

Well, this is an EDT, and depending on the temperature when it was tested and the testers’ skin chemistry, we got a mixed bag of between 4–8 hours before it disappeared. But…

Fortunately, there’s an easy solution to this:

If it doesn’t last long on your skin, just give your clothes a few spritzes as well, which boost its performance for a few extra hours. Sorted. 🙂

Oh, and did I mention the bottle looks awesome?

In my opinion, the LR Ocean bottle is the coolest looking of the bunch. It has a gorgeous deep-blue-colored gradient that pops with the contrasting red-colored stripe.

Since our last round of testing the best men’s Prada colognes, Prada has been milking the success of this awesome-smelling Luna Rossa Ocean EDT by cranking out 2 newer — and HIGHER priced — versions:

• Luna Rossa Ocean Eau de Parfum (EDP) – A similar-smelling but deeper and richer version of the EDT and then…
• Luna Rossa Ocean Le Parfum – A NOT-so-similar-smelling and even darker, spicy twist of the EDT

So, which is the best-smelling version, then? (Spoiler alert: the EDT.) 😎

Well, to settle this, we put all 3 current versions up against each other using a panel of unbiased judges. And…

The judges “blind” smelled them all side-by-side and then simply scored each one for how nice it smelled (both the opening and the drydown). The result?

The EDT is The MOST Loved

OVERWHELMINGLY, the judges (and yours truly) scored the EDT the highest.

After letting a panel of unbiased judges blind-sniff test both versions side-by-side, the majority of them preferred the smell of the EDT version. And the beautiful part:

EDT Wins Side-by-Side Tests

Not only did most of our judges think the EDT version was better smelling than the EDP version, but they also found the EDT smelled more versatile (you can wear it ALL year for just about anything). PLUS, it’s a LOT more affordable than the EDP!

L’Homme Prada Intense is a darker, more masculine version of Prada L’Homme (featured above on this list), which is more suited for daytime/warmer weather use.

On the other hand, this Intense version is more suited for cold weather/nighttime use so much so that it’s currently also a top pick on our best winter colognes list.

Let’s break it down…

Luxury Iris Aroma

L’Homme Prada Intense opens with a blast of clean, fresh, and soapy iris… mixed with a leathery accord and a pinch of tonka bean sweetness.

And as it dries down on your skin, it gets darker, richer, and smoother as the patchouli and woods creep in. The end result:
